I recently flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore with Scoot Airlines. Scoot is Singapore Airlines’ little sister budget airline. Despite it being a budget airline, I had a great flight thanks to some additional amenities I purchased. Please read below my tips to have a great flight with Scoot and make your flight more comfortable!
Preparing for your Scoot Flight
I purchased my ticket in combination with a Singapore Airlines Business Class ticket. I found this deal using SkyScanner. Skyscanner is searching all the major travel sites including the airlines itself. Check out Skyscanner yourself using this link!
Having bought my ticket in combination with a Singapore Airlines business class ticket, gave me some advantages for the Scoot ticket. But you don’t need to buy a Business Class ticket in combination with a Scoot ticket to get these advantages. You can also buy these items separately online if you think these are useful. Please find below the items which I recommend considering to transform your flight with Scoot into a great flight!

Because I booked my Scoot ticket in combination with a Singapore Airlines Business Class ticket, I received a complimentary meal as well as 40kg check-in luggage. I probably wouldn’t have purchased a meal for this relatively short flight, also because I had very low expectations of such a meal. But it was free so I was happy to try it out.
However, I did buy 2 additional items; the ‘Seat Selection’ as well as ‘BoardMeFirst’ option. The ‘BoardMeFirst’ option came with an unexpected, pleasant surprise which made it a great option. Board me first isn’t just boarding in the first group, but it also gives you priority check-in! When I arrived at the Ho Chi Minh City airport, there was already a huge row for the Scoot check-in counters. But then I noticed a priority check-in counter for Singapore Airlines elite members. And this counter was also open for ‘board me first’! That was a pleasant surprise and it really helped me out in this case.
I also had to check in for my flight from Singapore to London. In London I had another connecting flight but that flight was on a different ticket. I only had hand luggage and could check-in online for that connecting flight so I was planning to stay in-transit at London Heathrow. Despite that, the Scoot check-in person couldn’t check me in without an approved ETA UK form. Which I didn’t have…. Luckily I could apply online and it was immediately approved. Just a reminder when you fly into the UK and have a connecting flight on a different ticket; don’t assume you don’t need an ETA UK!

The Scoot Onboard Experience
Seat Selection was the other great purchase since the first row was still open when I wanted to pick my seat. Seats in the first row are, without a doubt, the best seats in the plane – the A321Neo. Regular seat pitch is 28″ which is really tight, especially if you’re my size 6ft3. The bulkhead seats have plenty of legroom though. These seats transform the flight from a dreadful flight into a very comfortable flight. Especially if the seat next to you stays empty, which was the case on my flight!

Seat itself is comfortable enough and flight attendants were really friendly. Even if you didn’t purchase a meal on forehand, you can still buy something to bite or drink onboard. I pre-selected the beef goulash with Mashed Potato. This also came with a soft drink, a chocolate cake and some cookies.

Again, I had very low expectations of this pre-selected meal, but it tasted actually pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised! In fact, this meal could compete with some of the premium economy meals I recently got on some of the major airlines I flew earlier this year!
Conclusion
I had a great flight with Scoot’s A321Neo from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore, thanks to some key additions. Purchasing a window bulkhead seat was the best option. I purchased this option for 665,000 VND which is roughly 22Euro! A great deal!
Second option, which was really worth it, was the board me first option. Note that if you have a bulkhead seat, you are automatically in the first group to board! I didn’t know that and only found out at the gate. But I still didn’t mind that I bought that option since it really saved me a lot of time during check-in. Time I needed to apply for the ETA UK form! I paid 123,000 VND for the board me first option; 4Euro! 4 Euro to get priority check-in and boarding! Who needs priority status!
