Hyatt Regency Santa Clara

The Hyatt Regency Santa Clara

When I’m in the Bay Area, I regularly stay at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara. In recent years, a lot of new hotels opened up in this area, but the Hyatt is still my preferred option as a business hotel. Please see below my review including a tip when to avoid the Hyatt Regency!

One of the most important factors for me when picking hotels, is the noise level, especially the noise coming from neighbouring rooms. When I’m reading hotel reviews myself and I’m seeing that the hotel is an old building, I’m already anticipating paper walls and no sound isolation. These hotels I won’t even consider despite their potential old charm and character. Even though the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara isn’t a new hotel – it was built in 1986 – I feel it’s still above average with regards to sound isolation.

Restaurant & Bar

Another good feature of the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara is the restaurant and bar. When I’m traveling to the US, for the first couple of days, I don’t want to venture out in the evening finding restaurants. Going back to the hotel knowing that there is a pretty good restaurant with excellent service is just a great feature. The restaurant also has a sushi bar. This really distinguishes the hotel from the other hotels in the area.

Breakfast is served during weekdays from 6:30 till 10:30. There is normally a buffet option but during quite periods, breakfast is only served via an a-la-carte menu.

Unfortunately, since Covid, the lounge is closed. It re-opened for a short while, but it’s closed for some time now already. Globalists do get some vouchers which can be used at the restaurant and globalists can also enjoy a free breakfast at the restaurant.

There is also a Peet’s coffee in the hotel which is very convenient.

Downside

Downside of the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara is the location next to the Levi’s stadium – home of the 49ers. Fans of the 49ers probably don’t see this as a downside, but if you’re visiting the hotel for business, it can be quite a surprise to see the hotel full of 49ers fans. Or full of ‘Swifties’, which happened to me once, when Taylor Swift was performing in the stadium during my stay.
During a game (or concert), the roads are blocked, or have limited access. Definitely something to take into account.
There is also the convention center next door hosting various activities during the weekends. Therefore, the weekends are very often extremely busy and chaotic. This is not just the case at the Hyatt though, but in most major hotels in the area. If I need to stay in the Santa Clara area during the weekends, I often escape to another area!
