My original title for this review was the ‘Hyatt Place Hoofddorp Review’, since this Hyatt Place is actually located in Hoofddorp. Hoofddorp is the village next to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. However, Hyatt calls this the ‘Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport’. Of course, ‘Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport’ sounds a lot better than ‘Hyatt Place Hoofddorp’.
This Hyatt Place caters to travelers visiting the business district in the Hoofddorp Beukenhorst area as well as Amsterdam Schiphol Airport travelers. There isn’t really any other reason to visit this Hyatt Place. Besides the airport and the offices in the direct neighborhood, there isn’t much else around. So when you’ll find yourself in this hotel, what’s it like staying there?
Check-in & Room
For my stay, I used a Hyatt Free Night Award. This was probably not the best use of a free night award, but this award was about to expire. The fact that I had to be in the area that evening, made it still a good use of the free night award for me. The Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport is a category 2 hotel which means you’ll need to spend a minimum of 6,000 points up to a maximum of 15,000 points per the updated award chart. I did check the amount of points I would have needed, and for that specific night 7,500 points would have been required. Room rates were around 100Euro.
If you want to know whether it makes sense to pay for your room, or use points, read my review on this; how buying hotel points could save you big!
Rooms at the Hyatt Place have either 2 twin beds, or a king bed. And then there are regular rooms and deluxe rooms. The latter rooms are bigger and have a small living area. When I booked my room, unfortunately the king bed rooms were not available anymore. However, during check-in, they still had the 2 twin bed deluxe rooms available. Despite my globalist status, this room wasn’t offered to me. Since I only stayed there for one night, I didn’t ask for an upgrade myself. If they don’t want to upgrade me, then I wasn’t going to make an issue out of that. So don’t assume you are automatically getting a room upgrade because of your Hyatt elite status.

Room itself was exactly what you would expect from a Hyatt Place. Having said that, it does feel a little bit more luxurious than the average US Hyatt Place hotel! The mattress is pretty hard though and the room was very warm – even though the outside temperature was only 15C. There is a temperature control device but that just had a knob you can turn left or right (to minus or plus). There is no indication of actual temperature. Moving the knob doesn’t seem to have any direct effect so initially I thought there was no way to control the room temperature. But I was wrong. I moved the knob immediately to the minus position and eventually that did cool down the room. So my advice is to do exactly the same when you enter a room at the Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport.

Other notable mentions

The Hyatt Place does have a restaurant. I didn’t visit the restaurant in the evening, but I did have breakfast in the restaurant. Breakfast was certainly a few levels up from any Hyatt Place you’ll find in the US. There are fresh pastries, fruit (even though not freshly prepared), and you can order some egg dishes. They can even prepare a decent cappuccino for you! So breakfast is very decent, and you don’t need to run to a coffee shop to get a decent coffee afterwards!
Since the hotel is close to the airport (only a 10 mins ride), there is a free shuttle bus. Please note that there are a lot of other hotels in the Hoofddorp Beukenhorst area you might want to consider when you don’t mind a short ride to the airport. The newly opened Radisson is a good alternative as well as the Novotel.
If you’re looking for a good restaurant in the area, you might consider Den Burgh. Walking distance from all the hotels mentioned.
Conclusion
My short stay at the Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport was perfectly fine. An efficient stay with a slightly better than expected breakfast. Don’t expect any thrills or amazing amenities; this is a hotel to just spend the night close to the location where you need to be.
