Singapore Airlines Business Class A380

Singapore Airlines Business Class A380 Review

For the longest time I wanted to fly Singapore Airlines Business Class on the A380. In fact, there were 2 Airline Classes I had on my bucket list; Air France La Premiere and Singapore Airlines Business Class on the A380. Even though Singapore Airlines offers Suites & First Class, I ‘just’ wanted to try out their Business Class. I did manage to fly with Air France La Premiere 2 years ago and that trip was epic. Probably an experience that won’t be beaten any time soon. On top of that, I was able to book that ticket using Flying Blue miles. After that epic trip, I was on the lookout trying to find a similar good deal on Singapore Airlines Business Class. Please read my review below and how I finally managed to get a good deal on Singapore Airlines.

Getting a good deal on SIA BC A380

I use United’s MileagePlus program to collect Star Alliance Miles. There is a good reason for it. My Marriott-Bonvoy titanium lifetime status gives me Silver status with United. And of all the Star Alliance partners, I fly United the most often. However, booking a Singapore Airlines business class ticket with United Miles doesn’t give you the best of deals – if you’re even able to find them.

LifeMiles is another option to book Star Alliance Business Class tickets with points. I did this quite often in the past and I wrote a blog specifically on this topic. But Singapore Airlines Business Class tickets are rarely available with LifeMiles. So using points to buy a Singapore Airlines ticket was in my case not that easy. If not, practically impossible.

When I had to fly back from Vietnam to Europe last month, I was searching for tickets on SkyScanner. I then came across a ticket which combined a Scoot ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore and a business class ticket from Singapore to London on the A380 with Singapore Airlines. Exactly what I was looking for and it was the cheapest Singapore Airlines Business Class ticket back to Europe. And the rate was very competitive. So thanks to SkyScanner I was able to book this deal. SkyScanner is searching all the major travel sites including the airlines itself. Check out SkyScanner yourself using this link!

Finally, I was able to secure a Singapore Airlines Business Class ticket on the A380 for a fairly attractive price. I couldn’t wait to try it out!

The A380 Business Class Cabin

Singapore Airlines was the launch customer of the A380 back in 2007. Almost 20 years ago! Up until COVID, they had 19 A380’s. After COVID, they retired 7 A380 so they now have 12 left. All A380’s have this relatively new Business Class cabin which was first introduced in 2017. The last A380 was retrofitted back in 2023.

The upperdeck of the A380 consists almost solely out of Business Class seats, except for 6 suites at the front of the plane. There are a massive 78 business class seats and these seats are bespoke to Singapore Airlines. These seats have a carbon fiber monocoque structure; extremely strong and light. The same technology you’ll find in Formula One racing cars!

The bulkhead seats in row 11, 91, and 96 have a little bit more legspace and the middle, bulkhead seats have another cool feature. These 2 middle seats can be turned into a big 2 person lie flat bed! Now that’s a way to travel with your partner! If you’re traveling alone, one of the window seats are the best seats in the plane. Luckily I was able to secure one of these window seats for my flight!

Seat width is 25 inches and the seats convert into a 78 inch fully flat bed (198 cm). Very good numbers! It means that even with my size (6ft3), I can comfortably lie down and move around.

Amenity Kit & Food Menu

When you board the plane, you’ll already find a pair of slippers, eyemask and socks at your seat. There isn’t an amenity kit by default, but it will be handed out to you when you ask for it. When you do, you’ll get a LeLabo bag with cosmetics. The bag itself seems more suited for premium economy than business class, but the contents are good. Face mist, hand lotion and lip balm.

The food menu is extensive and you can spend half an hour going through all the food and drink options. Besides the breakfast and dinner options, there are also light snacks for in between. All this means that you definitely don’t need to feel hungry on a flight with Singapore Airlines in Business Class.

But if you think the menu on board is extensive, think again! Because Singapore Airlines offers the book the cook concept. Before your flight, you can go online and pre-order your meal. That’s not that special in itself since a lot more airlines are offering that service. But Singapore Airlines takes it one step further; with Book the Cook there is a choice of almost 30 dishes to choose from! That’s simply overwhelming! I had to resort to other reviews to determine what options to take.

Finally I went for the Korean Shortribs as well as the Singapore Carrot Cake. The latter tasted brilliant but – as I realized when I was on board – the carrot cake is also available as ‘light snack’ in between meals…

Meals

Carrot Cake Singapore Airlines Business Class

Shortly after take-off, breakfast was served. This meant it was time for the carrot cake with shrimp. As mentioned earlier, that dish was brilliant. It also came with fresh fruit and a choice of bread. Probably one of the best breakfast dishes I ever had in Business Class. Having said that, the freshly made fried eggs in Austrian Business Class might still take the top spot!

During this 14 hour flight to London, crew regularly came by and there was plenty of opportunity to order more ‘light snacks’ and drinks. I waited for the dinner to come just before landing which started with Chicken Satay followed by a Prawn Salad. These 2 dishes could have been enough already but the main dish still had to come. The Korean ShortRib. That wasn’t the best dish in my opinion and I had only myself to blame since this was one of the ‘Book the Cook’ dishes I selected. Luckily, the ShortRib was followed by an excellent desert; Raspberry Cake. After that, it was time for a cappuccino, and then I promised myself not to eat anymore for 3 days! I was so full!

Internet & Entertainment Screen

Singapore Airlines does offer free internet in Business Class; as it should be! However, it does note that the internet bandwidth isn’t sufficient to stream video such as Youtube. I did try though and I did manage to watch some Youtube videos. There were some short interruptions but overall, the quality was not too bad.

There is also an 18 inch touchscreen with the usual entertainment options. Nowadays, I use more and more my own IPad with pre-loaded content, but the Krisworld entertainment system offers plenty of movies and TV shows as well.

Conclusion

Was the wait and anticipation worth it? Was Singapore Airlines Business Class in the A380, the best Business Class product I have ever flown with?

Certainly certain aspects are the best in the industry. Let’s start with the A380; what a joy to still be able to fly with this amazing plane. Luckily Singapore Airlines didn’t phase out all of their A380’s after COVID (unlike Air France) and you can still enjoy flying with this amazing plane. And of course they did update their Business Class Cabin in the A380 in time, so seats and configuration are completely up to date and can compete with any current product in the market. In contrary to Lufthansa which still flies around with an outdated, bad Business Class product on their A380’s!

Food options are extensive and the book the cook concept is unprecedented. Then the service; I believe Singapore Airlines uses the highest number of flight attendants per passenger in Business Class. Or they are simply more visible. There is always someone available and you really feel welcome.

Is there then nothing to complain about? We’re talking details here. The Internet could be improved, and the amenity kit bag could be a bit nicer and more unique to Singapore Airlines. But besides these 2 details, I think Singapore Airlines Business Class in the A380, is one of the best, if not the best, Business Class product you can fly today!
