I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay. Could this possibly be the best value Hyatt in Tokyo? And what are the disadvantages – if any – when staying at this hotel? Please read my review below to find out whether it’s worth it staying at this hotel.
Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay Room Rates

When you haven’t been to Japan for a while, you will be surprised what the prices for food and transportation are like when you now visit Japan. The ‘BigMac index’ shows Japan prices are now at the same level as Vietnam! Thanks to a big devaluation of the Japanese Yen in the last couple of years, Japan is now very affordable. A big contrast to 10-20 years ago when Japan was one of the most expensive countries in the world. So domestic transportation and food is now very affordable. This isn’t true for Tokyo hotel prices though. Hotel prices are very high especially for luxury hotels located in Tokyo central locations such as Ginza.
However, prices of luxury hotels in the Tokyo Bay area, are much more moderate. Prices are not only more affordable, you’ll also find that the rooms are in general a lot bigger. When I searched for a hotel for my stay in Tokyo, I found that the room rates of the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay were roughly half of that of other hotels such as the Hyatt Regency Tokyo or Grand Hyatt Tokyo. Other Hyatt hotels in the center of Tokyo were even a lot more expensive. If you want to use points for your hotel stay, the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay also has the lowest category of all Hyatt Tokyo hotels namely category 3.
Standard points required for a category 3 hotel are 12,000 points. Off-peak rates are 9,000 points and peak points are 15,000 points.
NOTE: Through April 14, 2025, Hyatt is offering a 25% discount on points purchases when you buy at least 3,000 points. Please read my review whether it makes sense buying points and redeeming them for hotel stays. It might be very beneficial buying points during a promotion and using them to pay for your hotel stay instead of paying the cash rate. Especially when the cash rate is relatively high and the hotel category is low, such as for the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay! You really could get a good deal using this tactic!
Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay Location
Every advantage has its disadvantage! And of course Tokyo Bay is not an obvious location to stay when you want to visit Tokyo as a tourist. Most of the hotels located at Tokyo Bay, cater to families visiting Tokyo Disney World.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to Tokyo Disney World and also during my stay, probably 90% of the guests were families visiting Tokyo Disney World. The hotel as well as the Tokyo Bay area itself doesn’t give you the Tokyo – Japan vibe. In fact, it almost feels like you are in Orlando instead of Tokyo. So if you want to experience Tokyo from the moment you step out of your hotel, you’re not at the right place!
However, that same free hotel shuttle bus which drives to Tokyo Disney World, also stops at the JR Shin-Urayasu Station which provides a Rapid Service to Tokyo Station. This brings you in less than 20 minutes to Tokyo Station. So if you don’t mind the extra commute, you can have a great deal staying at Tokyo Bay!
NOTE: When arriving by plane in Tokyo Haneda or Tokyo Narita, it’s recommended to take the Limousine Bus to the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay hotel. A very comfortable means of transport for a very reasonable price!
Check-in, lounge and restaurant

The check-in area of the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay has a big waiting area. When I arrived in the evening, no waiting was required and I could immediately check-in for my room. There was even time left to visit the lounge and the restaurant. However, when I visited the lounge – around 8PM in the evening – there wasn’t anything left to eat or drink, except for water, tea of coffee… So my lounge visit was very brief and I headed straight to the restaurant. Luckily the restaurant could still accommodate me and besides the Japanese staff, there wasn’t much to remind me that I was in Tokyo either. I settled for a Caesar Salad and a glass of Chardonnay and promised myself that my Japan experience would just have to wait till the next day!
Room

As stated, rooms of hotels located at the Tokyo Bay are a lot bigger than what you would find in central Tokyo. The Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay is no exception. A fairly big room with comfortable beds and good bathroom. Just what you would expect from a Hyatt Regency in Orlando…. or Tokyo Bay!
Other notable mentions

As a Hyatt globalist you can choose whether you want to have breakfast in the lounge or in the restaurant. After my disappointing experience in the lounge the evening before, I had no trouble deciding where I would like to have breakfast! The restaurant has a buffet and there is a good selection of western and asian dishes.
Since there were a lot of families with small children, you would expect a total chaos and lots of noice from screaming children. Well, here is the big difference with Orlando; we are in Japan after all and the golden rule in Japan is not to bother other people. So no screaming, no running and a very quite breakfast experience! Amazing!
All in all, I had a very good stay at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay. Transportation to the hotel from the airport is very smooth using the Airport Limousine bus and having the free hotel shuttle bus bringing you to the closest JR station is very helpful. Especially since the Keiyo Line brings you directly to Tokyo Station. Prices are very reasonable and a lot better than other Hyatt hotels in Tokyo. And if you do want to visit Tokyo Disney World, you’re in the perfect spot!
Of course, staying at a luxury hotel such as the Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo or Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills is really a better experience if you want to be in the heart of Tokyo, but that also comes with a hefty price tag!
