It’s becoming a yearly tradition for the family to visit Dusseldorf around the Christmas period. Dusseldorf is a great city for shopping and has a nice Christmas market which is open till December 31st. The fact that the Christmas Market is open till the end of the year is pretty unique since most Christmas markets in Germany close down by December 24 latest. The last couple of years, including this one, we always stayed at the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf hotel so time for a review!
Location & Check-in
The Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf hotel stands at the tip of the Dusseldorf Media Harbour area. The building consists out of two, 65-meter high glass towers, with the hotel in the east tower. It’s a 20 minutes walk to the center, along the Rhine River. When walking back to the hotel late afternoon, you’re getting the spectacular sunset for free! Not being smack in the middle of the center does have another advantage; the hotel is easily accessible by car and it has a decent sized parking garage.
The first thing you notice when entering the hotel is the design; a lot of dark, warm colors with gold accents. It’s a very luxurious vibe and you’ll find the same design in the restaurant/bar area as well as in the rooms. I like it a lot!
We always book 2 connecting rooms for our party of 4 and I was very happy to hear that one room was upgraded to a suite, thanks to my Hyatt Globalist status. The suite is really the perfect room at the Hyatt Regency since it’s a corner room and thus relatively quiet.
The Suite
Suites at the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf have a very generous size. For a city view, including a view of the ‘RheinTurn’ (the big tower standing next to the Rhine River), you’ll need to have a room facing North-East, but really every suite on the higher floors have good views. The mattresses of the bed are firm which suited me, but I know there are people who might like a softer mattress.
The bathroom in the suite is big enough and does come with a bath and separate shower area.
Restaurant & Lounge
The Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf does have a lounge even though it’s really small. Selection of food and drinks is limited but we still enjoyed this little space when it wasn’t too crowded.
Breakfast during the weekend is served in the restaurant from 7AM till 11:30AM. There is a buffet which is decent. They have a good selection of bread and pastries, and fruit. You can also order extras such as omelets, pancakes and waffles.
We visited the restaurant one evening when we were too tired to go outside. But the restaurant isn’t cheap and I would rate the quality as average. It’s probably better to venture out in the city. But you don’t even have to go that far! Only 5 minutes walk from the hotel, we found the Asian restaurant HATO. A really cool restaurant with excellent service and fantastic food. We especially liked the Blacked Cod and Black Pepper Beef. It was quite a surprise to find such a cool restaurant almost next to the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf! So if you like Asian food, I can highly recommend the HATO restaurant!
Conclusion
It’s always a pleasure going to Dusseldorf for a couple of days. For me, it’s normally a 2 hour drive when there isn’t any traffic. Staying at the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf is always a good experience thanks to the convenient location, nice rooms and solid breakfast. Getting upgraded to a suite is even better but isn’t necessary to enjoy your stay at this hotel!
