A few weeks ago, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. There are a lot of things to like about this hotel. Please read below why I think you should consider staying at the Grand Hyatt when staying in Beijing.
Location
Let’s start with the best thing this hotel has to offer; the location. If you place a pin at the heart of Beijing, that pin will be placed spot onto the Grand Hyatt Beijing. You cannot be at a more central location. This also means that the hotel is within walking distance of The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.
Even better, the hotel is connected to a small shopping mall which has direct access to the subway (Wangfujing Station). So connecting to the hotel from the Beijing South Train Station, or connecting to the Beijing Capital International Airport via subway, which I did, is really easy.

Initially, I had some trouble finding the entrance of the Grand Hyatt though, when navigating through the shopping mall. There are no signs indicating where the entrance of the Grand Hyatt is located. Except for one sign, which is directly in front of the entrance itself!
The entrance is at the Upper floor of the shopping mall. If you just walk from one side of the shopping mall, to the other, you’ll find it!
Hotel
The Grand Hyatt Beijing is a Hyatt Category 3 hotel. This means that you would need 12,000 points at the standard rate for a one-night stay when you want to use Hyatt points. Or, you could use a category 1-4 voucher. Regular rates were around 150 Euro a night when I booked my room. If you want to find out whether it’s worth it using points (or even buying points) for a stay at your desired Hyatt Hotel, please have a look at my blog on this topic. It also has a free calculation tool where you can immediately see if you can save money buying points!

The reception area of the Grand Hyatt Beijing is certainly Grand! A big, open reception area with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. The check-in experience got even better when I received an upgrade to a suite thanks to my Globalist Status.

The hotel does have a lounge which provides snacks and drinks in the evening as well as a breakfast service. Even though there wasn’t a huge selection of snacks and drinks in the evening, I did find some things for my liking when I visiting the lounge one evening. The breakfast service in the lounge was very disappointing though. A small selection and not a great quality of food.
Room

One positive aspect of the room was the fact that it was spacious. For sure the separate living room with working desk was very practical. However, first impression was that the room seemed a bit dated. Looking at certain room pictures available on the Hyatt Website, it seems some rooms are updated with a more modern interior. This specific room clearly wasn’t, demonstrated by the wooden cabinet complimented with the smallest television screen I’ve seen in ages.

Despite the outdated interior, the bed was comfortable and the room itself was clean and quiet.
Conclusion
I started this review with the question whether to consider staying at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. I definitely think you should consider it, especially if you can get a good deal on the room rate or maybe even have the opportunity to use a category 1-4 voucher for a free night. Highlight is the central location with direct access to the subway.
If you’re not a Hyatt Globalist, I wouldn’t pay extra for a room with Lounge Access since the breakfast in the Lounge is very disappointing. Rooms are comfortable and if you’re lucky, you might even be awarded with a room with is retrofitted with a more modern interior!
