Park Hyatt Chicago Review – the flagship Park Hyatt!

Last summer, I visited the Park Hyatt Chicago. The Park Hyatt Chicago was the first hotel of the ‘Park Hyatt’ brand and opened back in 1980. In 2022, it underwent a 60M$ transformation – which was proudly highlighted when I checked in. I was curious to see what Hyatt had done with this renovation and whether Park Hyatt Chicago could be once again the flagship Park Hyatt hotel.

This was my very first time in Chicago and – besides checking out the Park Hyatt – I was very excited to see the city’s architecture and do my own Ferris Bueller’s day off! Located in the Magnificent Mile neighborhood at 800M Michigan Avenue, the location of the Park Hyatt Chicago is perfect for a day off and check out all the sights. It’s close to all the major attractions including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Millenium Park, with the famous ‘Bean’ and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion.

The Park Hyatt Chicago Hotel

Lobby Park Hyatt Chicago

The lobby/reception area of the hotel feels like a living room coming out of a luxury apartment from Billionaire’s Row. Not the shiny, bling, opulent style, but the understated, luxury style the park Hyatt is famous for. More ‘Swiss Airlines’ than ‘Emirates’!

I used a suite upgrade voucher to have a suite for my 4 days stay and this came with a nice view in the direction of Lake Michigan – even though from my room I couldn’t see the lake.

A good Park Hyatt hotel gives you the feeling that you have arrived at your own, very comfortable, luxury city apartment. The Park Hyatt Chicago did exactly that. Having said that, the suite, with separate living room, obviously helped with that feeling! I also liked the padded window seats from which you could view the city’s busy streets.

The fitness center includes a big pool with skyline views. During my stay, the fitness center was never busy, and I often had the pool to myself. Sometimes hotels put restrictions when children are allowed to use the pool. None of these rules at the Park Hyatt and in general the hotel is very friendly for families with children.

Park Hyatt Chicago Restaurants

One of my favorite places of the hotel was the NoMI Garden restaurant; an outside terrace located at the 7th floor. This is a great place to relax after a day of working (or day off!) and serves American cuisine as well as sushi. Especially after a hot summer’s day, when it cools off, it’s very pleasant enjoying the outside with a cool (sparkling) drink.

Breakfast is served in the NoMI restaurant. Unfortunately, there is no buffet but the a-la-carte selection is sufficient and the quality, as well as the service, is excellent.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed the city of Chicago. Chicago is really a welcoming city with amazing architecture and the Park Hyatt – located at one of the best streets of Chicago – is a great place when you want to explore the city. The Park Hyatt Chicago doesn’t disappoint when it comes to service, food and overall design. I think they did an excellent job with this renovation, keeping the ‘understated luxury’ feeling the Park Hyatt is famous for, while still having all the modern technology and amenities.
